Privacy Policy
This policy describes how the Quran Android application (“the App”) handles information. The App is designed so that your reading, bookmarks, prayer settings, and location stay on your device. The developer does not operate an account system, analytics service, advertising network, or backend that collects personal data from the App.
1. Information we do not collect
The App does not:
- require you to create an account or sign in;
- collect your name, email address, phone number, or contacts;
- use advertising, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics;
- sell, rent, or share personal information with data brokers;
- upload your bookmarks, reading position, or prayer settings to a developer-operated server.
2. Information stored on your device
Preferences are stored locally using Android’s private app storage (SharedPreferences and app files). This may include:
- last-read position, bookmarks, font size, theme, and reciter choice;
- prayer-time settings (calculation method, madhab, notification choices);
- coordinates and place name if you set a location for prayer times;
- optional downloaded adhan recordings and printed-mushaf PDF files.
Uninstalling the App deletes this data from the device. If Android Backup is enabled on your phone, Google may include app preferences in the device backup you control in system settings. The developer does not receive that backup.
3. Location (optional)
Location permission is requested only if you choose “use my current location” for prayer times. You can refuse it and type a city name instead. Prayer times are calculated on the device; the developer does not receive your coordinates.
Looking up a city name or converting coordinates into a place name uses the Android Geocoder provided by the operating system. On many phones that service is operated by Google and may receive the city name or coordinates you asked to resolve. That request is made by the platform, not by a developer server.
4. Network requests you trigger
The Quran text, Ibn Kathir’s tafsir, and the Arabic fonts are bundled in the App and work offline. The App contacts the internet only when you use an online feature:
- Recitation. If you play audio, the App streams verse files from everyayah.com. That host can see a normal web request (for example IP address and which file was requested).
- Adhan recordings. If you download the adhan pack, files are fetched from the Internet Archive (archive.org) and stored on the device.
- Printed mushaf. If you download a certified page-scan edition, metadata and PDF files are fetched from the Internet Archive and stored on the device.
Those third parties process requests under their own privacy policies. The App does not send them your name, bookmarks, or an account identifier.
5. Notifications and alarms
If you enable adhan notifications, the App schedules exact alarms on the device and may play a downloaded recording via a local foreground service. Notification permission is optional. No notification content is sent to the developer.
6. Permissions
- Internet — recitation, optional downloads.
- Location — optional prayer-time coordinates.
- Notifications — optional prayer alerts.
- Exact alarms / boot completed / foreground playback — so prayer alerts can fire on time and the adhan can finish playing.
7. Children
The App does not knowingly collect personal information from children. It is a Quran reader and does not include social features, advertising, or user-generated profiles.
8. Your choices
- Deny location or notification permission in Android settings; reading still works.
- Clear downloaded mushaf or adhan files from inside the App.
- Uninstall the App to remove locally stored preferences.
9. Changes
If this policy changes, the “Last updated” date above will be revised. Continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised policy.
